Welcome to Utrecht
The Expat Center Utrecht is a one-stop shop for international people living in Utrecht. We offer services in 2 areas:
- Government formalities at arrival in Utrecht, for those who qualify (residence permits and municipal registration)
- Practical information and referrals to reliable service providers. All of this happens at one location: the City office of Utrecht, ‘Het stadskantoor’.
Many expats in Utrecht may use the Expat Center Utrecht through their employer to swiftly arrange the government formalities of getting a residence permit and register at the municipality of Utrecht.
An expat must live in, and/or work for a company located in the municipality of Utrecht, and his/her employer must be registered as a 'recognized sponsor' with the IND.
When registered, expats can finish payroll registration at their companies, open a bank account, sign up for health insurance, register for internet etc., much sooner than previously possible, saving time so they can start settling in in our beautiful region.

All international residents of the Utrecht region, are welcome to use the information desk of the Expat Center Utrecht.
Do you have a question on practical matters? Or do you want to know where you can obtain various professional services in English? Please feel free to walk in and ask our staff. Staff members at the Information desk are volunteers of Access, a not-for-profit organization supporting the international community in the Netherlands. They are expats themselves or have experiences being abroad to work and live. They are very happy to help you. So visit them on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 9-17 hours.
