17 January | 11.15 am: Hard work continues today
Various parties are continuing their work today to ensure that residents and business owners can return to their homes and shops.
- The Salvage Foundation is present at Mariaplaats. Together with residents and business owners, is being checked whether it is safe enough to return to homes or shops to collect belongings. They are also helping residents and business owners with any other questions or concerns they may have where possible.
- The utility companies are continuing to work to restore water, gas, and electricity in the area.
- The investigation and work in and around the buildings will continue. We are assessing the condition and safety of each damaged building. Because we are doing this thoroughly, it takes time. At the beginning of the evening, we will provide an update on how many people can return to their homes.

Following the explosion and subsequent fire in Visschersteeg in the centre of Utrecht, intensive emergency assistance has been provided and information disseminated in recent days. Below is the latest update:
- An increasingly larger area has been cleared in the course of the day. Zadelstraat and Mariaplaats, part of Visschersplein (up to Lint), Boterstraat, Strosteeg and Alendorpstraat are now accessible.
