If you are visiting Utrecht by coach, there are several transit stops at the edge of the city centre. Parking is available on the outskirts of the city.
Transit stops around the city centre
If you are visiting a destination within the city centre, there are 6 stops at the edge of the centre where passengers can exit and board the coach. You may stop here for a limited period during designated time slots. You can currently also stop at the Bartholomeibrug transit stop.
The historic city centre is not very big. Museums and other attractions are easily accessible on foot from the transit stops. Therefore, there is no need for coaches to navigate the narrow streets in the city centre.
The designated time slot and time for each transit stop are listed below. Please always turn off your engine to avoid disturbing those around you. If arrival is after 6.00 p.m., please use the Vredenburgknoop transit stop
Parking on the outskirts of the city
After dropping off your passengers at one of the transit stops, you can park in one of the easily accessible parking places on the outskirts of the city.
- The coach parking lot at Reactorweg 7 in the Lage Weide industrial park is easily accessible via Vleutenseweg and Wolfgang Pauliweg.
- The parking lot at the roadside restaurant near the De Meern (A12) motorway junction (privately owned).
- Coach parking spaces at P+R Westraven at Griffioenlaan 1, near exit 17 of the A12 and adjacent to the tram line.
- Coach parking spaces at P+R Utrecht Science Park along Uppsalalaan, near exit 2 of the A28 and adjacent to the tram line.
Domplein waiver extended
It is important for museums to be accessible for everyone. Therefore, starting in 2018, coaches with a waiver will be able to drive across Domplein. The waiver is intended for the transportation of vulnerable groups to city centre museums by coach. This trial has been running for over 3 years now, but the results are not yet reliable. We have therefore extended the trial period to 31 December 2024.
From unreliable to reliable results
The results were initially unreliable due to faltering technique and then the limitations imposed by COVID-19. We need more time to collect reliable data and form a clear view of the needs and use in the ‘new normal’.
Monitoring waiver applications
The museums have agreed not to apply for the waiver too often, and to use it only for its intended purpose. During the trial period, the use of the waiver will be monitored, including who uses it and how often.
After the trial
After the trial, we will make a recommendation to the municipal executive on how to proceed. This recommendation will be based on the results and experiences of local residents and museums.
